hard week...

Well this week had been kinda no fun....there has been harder weeks....but still stunk! Started out good with an ultrasound where we got to see Baby K #3....got some good pics and their lips and nose are soooo cute. I think it might have my nose and Keith's lips....not sure. Bad part was that the baby is measuring 7.10lbs and I technically have 5 1/2 weeks until my original due date....but since it is big....we are inducing in 3 1/2 weeks. The belly is measuring quite a bit bigger than the head...when they like it to be the opposite. If the body is bigger....then they worry about shoulder dystocia where you push out the head and the shoulders get stuck. My fluid levels were at the top of the range also.....these two things are usually indicative of gestational diabetes. The Dr said they don't normally check women for diabetes more than once (I passed the first time at 26 weeks) but when women are waving red flags at her...(evidently I was) she tests them late in pregnancy. So....I was sent to get my thyroid tested, do the YUMMY one hour glucose test again and wait for the results. That same day I took the kids to get their flu mist vaccines. Oh fun times. That same Wednesday my dear Aunt Lily passed away in the hospital...and that was hard news to receive. Even harder to hear it from my mom who couldn't stop crying. I wish I could fly home and go to the funeral with her....but travel is not possible at this point. Friday, I got a call from the Dr and they said my glucose levels were high...and that I had gestational diabetes. They said they would normally send a woman for the 3 hour test...but because of the lack of time until delivery...I have to meet with the hospital diabetes counselor on Monday and start a strict diet and insulin. Ugh.....just what I needed. Makes me wonder if I had it with one of the other kids??...both?? Guess we will never know since they never tested in teh 3rd trimester. I thank the Lord that I decided to go on Tricare Standard so that I could see any Dr I wanted instead of the Drs at Fort Carson (they wouldn't have caught this in a million years) So....I meet w/ the counselor on Monday and then with my OB/GYN on Tuesday. I am sure we will talk more of a specific plan at that time. I think she is really nervous about the baby growing any more....or larger than 9.5 lbs at least. So I am not sure what she is gonna say. I have a feeling she would love to schedule a c-section which I do NOT want...or to induce a whole other week early (we are two weeks early right now) and make me do an amnio to prove lung maturity. watching a super long needle enter my belly and draw out fluid....also does not sound fun :o( But I guess it is the lesser of two evils. So....that is the update. Konner is showing a low grade fever which I pray is from the flu mist...and pray goes away very quickly. Poor guy needs a break. He just got off antibiotics for his respiratory and ear infection! I will update this week with a 9 month preggo picture and the results of my meeting with the OB.

Oh Kara! So sorry to hear that you have gestational diabetes. I'll be praying for an easy delivery and a healthly baby! Hang in there!
